EARLY LIFE OF MOSES

Moses was born to Hebrew parents, Amram and Jochebed, at a time when the Israelites were suffering oppression in Egypt.

Pharaoh had ordered that every newborn Hebrew boy should be killed because he feared that the Israelites were becoming too numerous.

Moses' mother hid him for three months. When she could no longer hide him, she placed him in a basket made of reeds and put the basket among the reeds along the bank of the River Nile.

Pharaoh's daughter came to the river and discovered the baby. She felt pity for him and decided to adopt him. Moses' sister, Miriam, approached her and offered to find a Hebrew woman to nurse the child. Moses' own mother was therefore brought to nurse him.

When Moses grew older, he was taken to Pharaoh's daughter and became her son.

Later, Moses became aware of the suffering of his Hebrew people. On one occasion, he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew and killed the Egyptian. When Pharaoh heard about it, Moses fled Egypt and settled in Midian.

In Midian, Moses became a shepherd and married Zipporah, the daughter of Jethro.

HOW MOSES LED THE ISRAELITES OUT EGYPT

Moses was reluctant to lead the Israelites out of Egypt because he felt they would not believe that God actually appeared to him. God therefore, have him series of signs that he should perform to convince the people. As he complained that he was not eloquent, God gave him Aaron to assist him. Attempt by moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt met with stiff apposition from Pharaoh because God had determined to harden his (Pharaoh) heart in order to bring untold suffering on the Egyptians. The Lord afflicted the Egyptians with a lot of plagues before Pharaoh reluctantly allowed the Israelites to go, As soon as he let them go, he pursued them again to bring them back because God had hardened his heart so that he would achieve victory over him and his host (Exodus 14:14).

As the Egyptians drew near, the Israelites were afraid.

They accused Moses that he deliberately wanted them to die in the wilderness, but Moses comforted them when he said fear not, stand firm and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you and you, and all you have to do is keep still.”(Exodus 14:13-14). Moses cried to the Lord who directed him to order the people to go forward. He was told to lift his rod and Stretch his hand towards the red sea to divide it so that the people of Israel would cross the sea on dry ground.God told Moses that He would harden the hearts of the Egyptians.punish them severely and they would know that He is the Lord.God caused His Angel to go before behind the people of Israel, and the Pillar of cloud which led the Israelites also moved behind them, theyby preventing the Egyptians from seeing the Israelites.

Moses then stretch out his hand towards the sea and the Lord drive back the Water by an easterly Wind. The people of Israel crossed the Red Sea on dry ground. They walked all through the night.when the Egyptian troops reached the shores and saw the Israelites far out of sea, they rushed into it.but the wheel of their chariot clogged in the muddy ground. The Lord told Moses to stretch his hand over the sea, and he did as the Lord said and the water returned “to its normal position “.

The Egyptian troops were overwhelmed by the Water and they all drowned. When the Israelites saw that they had been saved, and that all the Egyptian army had drowned, they fear God , believed in Him and in his servant, Moses.
