A. INTRODUCTION

Meaning of Sovereignty

Sovereignty means dominion over a State, Kingdom or within a designated areas of authority or the supreme power and the right to exercise it. Therefore sovereignty of God means God’s absolute power over the Universe.

B. HOW GOD DEMONSTRATED HIS SOVEREIGNTY OVER CREATION

God demonstrated His sovereignty in several ways:

1. He created everything: God created the heavens, earth, light, plants, animals and man.

2. He created by His word: God spoke, and things came into existence. For example, He said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

3. He controlled the order of creation: God decided what should be created and when it should be created.

4. He separated light from darkness: He established day and night.

5. He controlled the seas and dry land: God gathered the waters and caused dry land to appear.

6. He created living creatures: God created creatures of the sea, birds of the air and animals of the land.

7. He created human beings in His image: Human beings are the highest part of God’s earthly creation and were given dominion over other creatures.

8. He gave laws and commands: God gave Adam instructions concerning the Garden of Eden.

9. He blessed His creation: God blessed the living creatures and human beings and commanded them to multiply.

10. He rested after creation: On the seventh day, God rested from His work, showing that creation was completed according to His purpose.

C. THE ESSENCE OF BREATH DURING THE CREATION OF MAN

The breath of God is important because:

1. It gave man life: The body formed from dust became a living person when God gave him the breath of life.

2. It shows man’s dependence on God: Human life comes from God and is sustained by Him.

3. It distinguishes man from an ordinary object: Man is not merely a body made from dust; God gave him life.

4. It demonstrates God’s power: Only God has the ultimate power to give life.

5. It teaches the value of human life: Since life comes from God, human life should be respected and protected.

6. It shows man’s relationship with God: Human beings depend on God for existence and life.

Therefore, the breath of life demonstrates God’s sovereignty and His power as the giver and sustainer of life.

D. MORAL LESSONS

*God is the supreme ruler over all creation.

*Human beings should acknowledge God’s authority.

*We should appreciate God for the gift of life.

*Human life should be valued and protected.

*We should care for God’s creation responsibly.

*Nobody should claim to be greater than God.

*We should obey God’s instructions and live according to His will.
